Talkhiyan was Sahir Ludhianvi's first book and it contains 67 songs and ghazals. From the days of college, Sahir had started poetry and people started liking it too, but his separate identity started to be formed only after the publication of Talkhiyaan. This book written in Urdu became very popular and several editions were printed. Its Hindi version was published in 1958 by Rajpal & Sons. Now its new edition is presented on the demand of Sahir's loving readers. Sahir Ludhianvi will be remembered for his poetry but at the same time he will always be remembered for giving a new identity and status to the songs in Hindi cinema. Born in a Muslim family in Ludhiana, Sahir Ludhianvi's real name was Abdul Hayee. After college education, he moved from Ludhiana to Lahore and started working in Urdu magazines. When the Government of Pakistan issued warrants for his arrest due to a controversial statement, Sahir left Lahore and came to India in 1949 and made his home in Mumbai. He proved to be a very popular lyricist in the world of Hindi cinema and was awarded the Filmfare Award twice. Appreciating his work, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri in 1971. Sahir Ludhianvi died in 1980 at the age of 59.
