Sardar Patel, the first home minister of independent India and titled 'Iron Man', was a prominent member of the Congress. He played an important role in the freedom movement with the aim of achieving complete independence. The greatness and unity of India remained his guiding star throughout his political career. Sardar Patel was a staunch critic of the British policy of 'divide and rule' by creating internal differences between the two communities. Maintaining the unity of India was his biggest concern.
