From Socrates To Sartre: The Philosophic Quest presents to the reader the works of six famous philosophers discussing their perspective on topics like God, man, truth, politics, ethics and nature. It also talks about philosophy and its influence in today's world.

    Summary Of The Book

From Socrates To Sartre: The Philosophic Quest relooks at the philosophical ideas of the great thinkers of ancient times who have helped shape civilization as we see it today. The book gives the reader a peek into the lives and times of these great visionaries. In this book, the author attempts to link the ideas of some of the most famous philosophers to the many choices faced by present day Americans.

The book takes its reader on a journey from the origins of Western society in Athens in the times of Plato, to today when Marxism has a stronghold on about a third of the entire world. The author also presents a clear understanding of philosophy and how it influences people in relation to the present day world.

From Socrates To Sartre: The Philosophic Quest explains to the reader the concept of philosophy in itself and as a factor that has helped in shaping human civilization. The book attempts to help the reader understand the social, political, historical and intellectual influences that have helped shape each of the philosophies. The book also raises questions like what is the appeal of philosophy, to whom and also why is it so appealing in the modern world.

The book was published in 1984, and was an adaptation of a televised series by the same name that was broadcast across America. The National University Consortium has included it in its curriculum. Over 250,000 copies of the book were published.
