1965: Indian Army is preparing for a full-fledged war on its western border. After the Pakistan army’s infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Army decides to threaten Lahore to divert Pakistani forces from J&K towards Lahore.
The Pakistani town of Barki, only twenty odd kilometres from Lahore, acts as the strongest defensive position for the Pakistan army. Therefore, its capture, though almost impossible, is crucial. 4 SIKH, commanded by Lt Col Anant Singh, is assigned the task of capturing Barki.

About the Author

Brig Kanwaljit Singh (Retd) was commissioned in 4 SIKH (Saragarhi) in 1962. During Indo-Pak War 1965, his leading Company captured Brahmanabad, and then area Police Station, Barki (Lahore). During recapture of Khemkaran, he was wounded and taken a PoW for five months. During Indo-Pak War 1971, he was leading Company Commander in four attacks. He was wounded during successful capture of Siramani (Khulna). His unit was conferred with Battle Honours of Barki and Siramani, and Theatre Honour Punjab.
Alumni of Defence Services Staff College and College of Defence Management, he has commanded 20 SIKH, 4 SIKH, Uri Brigade, Sikh Regimental Centre and a Territorial Army group. He has been an instructor in prestigious Infantry School and College of Combat, Mhow. He has held eminent staff appointments of General Staff Officer – Grade 1 of an Infantry Division and Colonel General Staff Planning in a Corps. He has been an outstanding sportsman, keen shikari and a golfer. Besides numerous articles, he has authored four books - The Iconic Battle of Saragarhi - Echoes of the Frontier, Ashes to Glory - Saragarhi Battalion, As it happened- Amazing Telltales of Army Life and The Chameleons.

Nirvan Singh, Nirvan Singh, born and brought up in Amritsar, is an avid artist, writer and adventurer. Inspired by military service by his family’s last three generations, it is his endeavour to write about stories of grit and determination, wisdom and valour of men and women from the Indian Armed Forces and other exemplary men and women of this nation.
Kirandeep Singh is the former head of the Department of Management Studies in a college in Amritsar and is currently pursuing his doctorate. He has written several poems and short stories in both English and Punjabi.
