Divided into 6 parts, the book deals with the Two nation theory, the Causes of the Communal triangle, the many different schemes of Partition, the resources of the state of Pakistan, the alternatives to Pakistan and the All-India Muslim League Resolution on Pakistan.

The division of India into two nations has been a complex subject and remains so to this day. The book gives an exhaustive account by the author who was an integral part of the freedom struggle. The First part of the book focuses on the basis and reasons of the two nation theory.

The Second part deals with many contemporary events of the freedom struggle. Rajendra Prasad gives an account of the 'Divide and Rule policy' of the British, the life of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, The Wahabi movement, and the Origin of the separate electorates. The author also discusses the Khilafat movement, The Muslim League and the Lucknow Pact.

The following section deals with the Confederacy schemes of India, The Aligarh Professors’ Scheme, Dr. S.A. Latif's scheme and other such schemes. This section also deals with Germination of the idea of Partition.

India Divided also deals with the implications and indefiniteness of the All-India Muslim League resolution. It also focuses on the delimitation of the Muslim state and the partition of the Bengalis and Sikhs.

The various resources of Pakistan like Minerals, Agriculture, Forests has also been analysed. The many different alternatives to the partition problem like the Cripps Proposal, Sir Sultan Ahmad's Scheme, Radha Kumud Mukherji's approach to the problem and Sir Ardeshir's scheme is also discussed.

The book includes important tables like the 1937 results of General Elections, population of Muslims and non Muslims into north-western zone, the Percentage of men from different parts in the army, and provincial revenues and expenditure among others.

About Rajendra Prasad

A political activist, independence leader, lawyer and teacher, Dr. Rajendra Prasad is among the important figures of the National Movement in India. He was the first President of Independent India.

Apart from India Divided, Dr. Prasad has contributed other significant titles to the literary world. His works include Atmakatha, Satyagraha At Champaran, Since Independence, Bapu Ke Kadmon Mein, and Bharitya Shiksha.

A Bharat Ratna recipient, Rajendra Prasad was a loyal follower of Gandhi. He was the President of the Constituent Assembly that drafted India's Constitution.
